Two channel analog better on Blue Dot

Two channel analog better on Blue Dot - 03/04/03 11:37 AM

I have a Red Dot 950 and the six-channel analog input is MUCH superior to the two-channel analog inputs: more depth of sound, more volume, more cojones (a SoCal audio technical term )

Does anyone who has owned both a Red Dot and Blue Dot have any observations on this? Is the situation still the same? Did they improve the two-channel input quality when they boosted the Blue Dot output?

Right now I have a switcher so I can connect all my analog sources to the six-channel. But, of course, that means no digital surround processing for that non-critical analog material I want to play around with.

The blue dot had some work done on it's 2 channel bypass to get the hiss down. I've read reports here that it sounds better than on the red dot. I don't use this input myself so I can't offer any opinion. I've been trained by my previous wife to never have an opinion. This simplifies life somewhat

The "stereo bypass" input.

Hmmm, Soundhound, as you know, MY ex-wife encouraged me to have opinions ... as long as they were HER opinions.

sigh - one of the big reason I married a foreigner..

Bob - To my ears, the blue dot fixes quite a few issues with 2 channel sound quality. The soundstage is much bigger and wider, the midrange isn't as compressed and I'm hearing again many details that were lost in the recordings by previous 950's.

My only reservation is that I've had the blue dot nearly 2 months, and it still sounds brighter with the treble less refined than previous models. I've been taking it on faith that it will burn in, but its taking much longer than with earlier 950's and I'm starting to get nervous.

Also as with the older 950's it's still pretty much mandatory to keep the sub on when listening in 2 channel.
