New Sony SACD Player/and I guess I'm slow - 11/01/02 01:51 AM

Helllpppp! Just bought a Sony SACD 222ES player/received my Oulaw cables today and thought I'd just be plug and play.

Hooked up and no sound. Playing the SACD sampler disc that came with player. All connections appear to be correct.

Questions (besides how to get some tunes)/What input do I set the 950 to? For redbook, input CD and good to go.

Is this my problem - I have an MSB Link DAC in the chain. For Redbook - Coax Dig out from Sony SACD into DAC - From DAC Analog outs to 950 CD Analog in.

For SACD - 5.1 Channel output into 950 5.1 input. Can I use the Coax Out to MSB for redbook and the 5.1 Out to 950 for SACD??

I hope having external DAC in chain works cause I dig the sound of the MSB. Thanks in advance/man things were easier adding vinyl to the mix!

Did you select the 5.1 inputs on the 950? - they have to be selected _only_ by the remote control in order to hear the 5.1 analog inputs. The button on the remote is very easy to miss. It seems like everything is connected OK. I really wish you could select this on the front panel; lose the remote, and you're screwed.

Similar problem, I just bought a SONY DVP-NS755 (DVD-SACD) and it looks like I have to specify the PCM output through the players OSD menus. The 5.1 output works and the analog output works but no sound via the optical or coaxial outputs. I guess it's time to read the manual.

Davis S-- The 950 remote says "NEXT" on the button and "6 CH" above it. Push that one to select 6 channel bypass! I also have the 222ES. It's a good player.

You also have to make sure that when you hit the 6 ch button on the remote that you are switching _from_ a multichannel source in order to get all channels to work. If you switch from stereo, you'll get stereo.

Think the user interface could use a _little_ work????

And don't forget to push the AUD button before hitting the NEXT/6 CH button

Or set up a macro to handle that for you...

By golly I got it. The sampler disc is all I've got/ordered 5 from Red Trumpet on Wednesday. Thanks to all. Bass sounds deep on the James Taylor tune/clean as well. I got the player new for $339 at Good Guys. Seems like a great price as that had it at $499. I bought the 775 but with the optical cable +$30 I was at $230. Seemed like a no brainer for the +110/and use my existing coax dig.

Not true! At least for me. My CD player, when configured for 2 channel STEREO goes into "BYPASS" "6 CHANNEL INPUT" with a press of the 6 CH button on the remote. With a 5.1 SACD playing, music comes out of all 6 speakers. Push the 6 CH button once again and the 950 goes back to 2 CHANNEL STEREO, just as the manual says it should. Did I misunderstand, or am I missing something here?
