Anybody notice that something like 6000 posts just disappeared from this forum? Many other fora also seem to be proportionally light.

Check out the archives -- they have moved older threads out of several forums into archives for those threads. That's why the IR1000 forum is now completely empty.

EDIT: Oh, and if you want to actually look in those archives, check out the pull-down list of archives on the main page or the "hop to" list at the bottom of other pages...

The archives seem to cover a large period of time but are listed alphatically by title not by date. Hard to remember the first letter of the title. Many titles start with 950 or Help or I. Is it possible to also list the archives by date?

And archived threads cannot be posted to. That kind of blows. I wonder why threads are archived? I can't believe it's to save storage space, since they're still obviously online. Maybe some kind of performance reason?

It may be database performance -- they could have converted the old posts to static HTML (I am guessing that the active threads are not static, as the "gunslinger" tags change on old posts as soon as someone hits 16 posts).
