Using 950 in Japan?!?!? - 11/10/02 09:16 PM

I'm moving to Tokyo and plan to take my 950 with me. I think the current will work fine, but I'm a bit concerned about whether the 950 will pass BS-satelite, CS satelite and "Hi-vision" (i.e., Japan's version of HDTV) signals cleanly. Can anyone advise me?

I'd toss an e-mail off to Scott and Mike at Outlaw (info@outlawaudio.com) and see what they say. Are the sources in question using component video, or are they using S-Video/composite? The component video should be fine, I suspect (although it couldn't hurt to run it past Outlaw) as the 950's component switching is pure switching designed for HDTV bandwidth. The S-Video and composite includes the OSD, which I'm sure is formatted for NTSC and not PAL. I don't remember which format Japan uses.

If NTSC is the issue I'm pretty sure most Asiatic countries use it. And definitely Japan.

I use my satellite Sky/Perfect in Daikanyama without any problem. You will have a slight amp issue which is power rating will drop by about 10% due to the 100 watts vs. US 110. Also B&W speakers are extremely well priced here if you need them.
