surrounds in 5.1

surrounds in 5.1 - 09/17/02 10:57 PM

I probably know the answer already, but I thought I would ask anyway. Is there anyway to use the back surrounds instead of the side surrounds on the 5.1 input?

Thanks,
Dan

I doubt it. It looks like if you have the rear surrounds playing at all, you get the sides also. You can always put an outboard speaker switcher in-line with your speakers to swap the sides for the backs. You would choose a mode that doesn't include the rears in that case.

I think the only way to do this would be a switch of some sort between the 950 and your amp(s) -- something that would direct the surround signals to the surround back amp instead of the surround amp. It would take some creative wiring.

That was the only advantage my Denon 3802 had over the 950 was the 7.1 input instead of the 5.1. The 950 is a great sounding unit though.

Thanks for the replies.

It's one of the things I suggested on my "wish list" (see one of the other fora...) A lot of DVD-A material is meant to be used with rear, rather than side surrounds, and I wanted to be able to send 5.1 material to either F/C/R/SL/SR, or F/C/R/RL/RR. One would think it would be an easy thing to implement in the pre/pro, where the feature belongs...
