950 Record Out Questions

950 Record Out Questions - 06/14/02 12:52 AM

1) Using the tape or VCR (audio) analog record out jacks, anyone know if when I input an analog signal, does it undergo A-D / D-A conversion, or just stay in the analog domain?

2) If I use a digital out to record a digital input (PCM of course), is the signal passed through the 950 untouched? Or does it get *any* kind of processing?

Cheers...

2. I asked this question awhile ago and the Outlaw said that it is untouched.

How about this: are the digital inputs available on the analog record outputs, and vice-versa? That is, could I record to, say, Minidisc from tape or the radio with only the digital record out connected? Could I record a CD or the audio track from a DVD to a casette tape? I haven't tried any of this yet so I really don't know.

Yes. I've done that using my HK CDR30 (instead of my broken MD).

I am not sure about this because I don't have any analog source. However, when you want to record a song from DVD to a digital source such as CDR (or MD), you have to use the onboard DA converter of the DVD player. Otherwise, you will get the "copyrighted material" message.

I thought you could make a first-generation digital copy with no problems; that only the second-generation copy was prohibited.

I guess you're right, but I haven't come across any of the first generation DVDs yet. Some CDs would not let me record digitally either.
