One "newbie" question about the Outlaw 950 vs. a regualr A/V Receiver - 02/13/02 10:30 PM

Just one quick question:

I currently use a Denon AVR-3300 A/V Receiver in my modest Home theater setup.

I understand that the Outlaw 950 is a PRE/PRO.....but can I use the 950 to replace my Denon AVR-3300? Can it act "like" my A/V Receiver?

I'm not all that knowledgeable on PRE/PRO setups.....what other equipment would I need? Or could I get by with the 950 as an A/V Receiver...?

Thanks

To replace your AVR-3300 with a 950, you would also need an amplifier (a pre/pro is essentially a receiver with no amplification in it). As the 950 supports 7.1, you would want at least five channels of amplification and you would likely want to be able to increase to seven channels later (or immediately). Does that help?

Gonk-

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes - this helps me out tremendously.

So, something like the Outlaw 750 would be a perfect match right now anyway (for 5 channels)?

Is there going to be a new Amp for the 950 that offers 7 channles of amplification?

Thanks again...

The 750 would be an excellent match (it's what I'll be using). Outlaw will also begin shipping the 770 (7 channels, 200WPC) at about the same time they begin shipping the 950 -- it will sell for $1799, but there will be a discount if you also buy a a 950 (they haven't said how much, but the discount on the 750 is $50).

Perfect. Thanks for all the help. I signed up on the waiting list earlier tonight (I know...I'm late) and I'll go from there.

Not sure what I'll do...as I may not be ready to spend that much cash on my MT just yet. But I sure want to

Thanks again Gonk - Best Regards!

The Outlaws have said that recent reservations will probably get their units sometime in April, as they're going to take more than a month to fill current reservations. Just so you know.
