Headphone jack?

Headphone jack? - 01/23/02 10:33 PM

Can anyone confirm that there is no headphone jack on the 950? This seems like a major omission!

No headphone jack.

I read something recently talking about headphone amps that said that many manufacturers of pre/pros left them off because it was a significant cost to do the job right and was not heavily used by people buying separates.

I still think it's a mistake to leave off this feature. Just think about it -- buying a 950/770 combo will set you back more than $2500. For that much, you ought to get all the features found on the 1050 (which, unlike the 950, has a headphone jack).

Hopefully, the hi-end preamp/processor will have a headphone jack and Dolby headphone. And perhaps the Outlaws will come out with an affordable headphone amplifier with built-in Dolby headphone to use in conjunction with the 950.

I would like to see a reasonably-priced headphone amp.

I wonder if the Outlaws will solicit features lists for the new pre/pro. I know there are quite a few things the 950 doesn't do that I'd like to see included in a high-end model. Perhaps they'll sponsor some sort of open voting period. I wonder how far along they are with the high-end model? Do you think they've even started thinking about feature sets yet?

I've gotten the impression from some of the news posts that they have had at least a partial feature list from the very beginning -- some of the features on that list would appear to be part of why it's still a ways off, as they want to include DVD-A/SACD decoding (which needs an approved standard digital interface and encryption scheme) at least. I would say that it would be worth creating a thread in the "New Product Suggestions" forum. Let folks contribute their idea and maybe have someone maintain a "master list" of forum member suggestions?
