Speaker Recommendations - 01/11/06 05:20 PM

I am looking for speaker recommendations for my 13' L by 10' W room. I would like to have a 7 channel home theatre system. What speakers would you recommend that works well with 990 pre-amp and 7125 amp? Please keep in mind some of the constraints I have:

1. Small size of the room 13 X 10
2. rear speakers will be on the ceiling due to lack of space behind the sofa.

Appreciate your responses.

There are a number of good options to choose from, depending on your personal preferences and budget. The Your System Saloon includes a number of posts listing equipment used by other Outlaws and discussions of some different speaker brands. If you have a particular budget in mind, that might help folks offer suggestions. In the meanwhile, some of the usual suspects would be Paradigm (I use some older Paradigm Reference), Boston Acoustics, Klipsch, Magnepan (although I'm not sure how well they'll work in a small room - some Magnepan owners can comment better on that), Polk (although the larger and more expensive Polks are very inefficient speakers that often need a lot of power), Definitive Technology, B&W, Axiom, Onix Rocket, Aperion, Energy, and probably half a dozen that I forgot. An idea of budget could help thin the list a bit.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a budget of about $2500 for the speakers.

10x13 is small.gonk gave a good list of brands.i'll add that you really shouldn't need more than good bookshelfs(and stands for the front) and don't forget the sub.i'm in a 10x20 basement room and did run 5.1 with b&w 601's up front and it has always been plenty, but theater is in limbo while i play with makin' my own speakers.

smaller towers could be used depending on furniture placement.myself,i like a line of sight for ALL drivers(sub can be excluded).i don't want a woofer in a tower blocked by a chair.know what i mean?

7.1 may be hard in a room that small.you might consider in-wall speakers all around.

Thanks for the recommendations so far.

I am strongly considering Axiom's Grand Master or Epic 60. Considering the size of the room and my budget, this choice seems to be appropriate. If anyone has a different suggestion or think that these speakers are not good, please share your thoughts.
