Is my room too small?

Is my room too small? - 06/20/05 11:13 AM

I'd love to have an LFM-1 but I'm setting up a small HT/listening room of about 11' x 12'--actually 11 x 11 considering that one long wall will be bookcases. It looks like the footprint of the LFM-1 is about 3 square feet & even though there is a 9' ceiling, the room is only about 48 cu. yd. in volume. Both of those numbers seem small.

Is anyone using an LFM-1 in such a small room? Thanks for the help.

(If this has been covered elsewhere in this forum, I apologize--I'm not quite caught up in reading the older messages.)

By my calculations, the room is around 1,100 cubic feet discounting the space taken up by bookcases (11x11x9). It's probably larger than that, since the bookcases will not completely consume the entire 11x1x9 space along that wall. This is not a huge volume, but I don't see it as an argument against the LFM-1. In all likelihood the biggest problem will be finding floor space for it. If you can fit it in somewhere, it would probably be worth considering. I ran an SVS 25-31PCi sub (comparable specs to the LFM-1, although a cylinder instead of a box) in my previous house, and that space was around 1650 cubic feet (11x19x8) with the actual listening space taking up an area similar to your room (11x10).
