LFM makes my other speakers "Small"

LFM makes my other speakers "Small" - 02/16/05 01:52 PM

Hi all, I just set up a Monitor Audio Center channel speaker and ran through my receiver's (Denon 2805) auto setup routine.

I have varied the crossover on my LFM-1 from 120 to 40. No matter what setting I'm at, the auto-calibrate wants to set all my other speakers Small.

I can override this, but I'm wondering what's going on - the other speakers (Monitor center & surrounds) all have a pretty good range.

Thanks!

I think in order for your processor to use the desired crossover, it MUST set your mains to small...if left to large, you get no crossover...hopefully others who will be able to explain this better than I have will chime in sooner rather than later...My mains have pretty good range too but I set them to small and my crossover for the LFM-1 to about45 or so...I LOVE the sound.

I guess what I am trying to say is that using "Large" bypasses the crossover to that speaker but "Small" allows the sub to get the signal at and below the crossover...

Thanks Bill, that makes perfect sense! If they were all set to large, the receiver would send everything everywhere, there'd be no need for a crossover (and probably a lot of interference...)
I'm guessing that once I told the receiver that I had a subwoofer, it automatically set the rest of the speakers to small (since it's brighter than I am smile .

Thanks for the tip - I'll play around between 40 and 80, see what works!
