7100 or 770 - 06/16/03 04:17 PM

Hi Group,
I have M&K 850, which is 5 (small) + .1 powered sub.
Given then that all of my speakers are "small", is it a reasonable conclusion that 100x7 (5 in use) should be more than enough? I know you can never have "too much power" for dynamic passages, but why move around 90 pounds if it is unneeded (and the orice difference of course).

I would think the 7100 would be more than enough power for those M&K's. That combination would probably sound amazing on movies. If you want another opinion on the 7100's abilities, check out the review on this site:

I have M&K 750 THX with Outlaw 950/7100 combo. I purchase the 7100 with the thought that I could always replace it with the 770 befroe my 30 days was up if it wasn't enough power. Most of my listening is done between -40db and -35db and the loudest I have had my system cranked was -30db.

Glad to hear from another M&K user. Bought my first M&K satellites and subwoofer over 20 years ago before most had ever heard of either.

If you got the cash I would go for the 770. Its more future proof for any type of speaker (lets say you want some magnepans or even B&W's in ten years) and like you said, it never hurts to have extra power.
