1050 sound problem - 10/27/03 01:38 PM

Recently, as I was watching Reign of Fire on Showtimes digital cable and later, playing The Italian Job ond dvd I noticed the dreaded sound dropouts in my 1050. I have my rear center channel on since the JPIII fix came about but the sound still is off and on. COnnections are o.k. from the cable box(Coax) and DVD player (OPT2) It only seems to happen on newer movies although the Matrix 2 played great. Any ideas whats happing on some of these movies?? Thanks.

Italian Job is 5.1, I believe, so it shouldn't be the Dolby EX flag giving you trouble. How often did the dropout occur? Are we talking every three to five seconds, or something a lot less often? Also, were you getting Reign of Fire in Dolby 5.1? I don't have any of the premium channels, but the digital cable I do get has all been Dolby 2.0 or PCM.

The Reign of Fire movie did indeed come thruogh in 5.1. At least thats what the 1050 displayed showed. Both my Preium channels show new movies in 5.1. The time spread is eractic. maybe two to three miniute but somtimes it will play twenty minutes without a dropout. I blamed the cable untill my DVD did it too. Last night we watched The Core with out a problem though on DVD. By the Way even though I have the rear channel on I have the 1050 set to phamtom mode. do you think thats doing it somehow? Thanks

Exactly two years? Over? Under? If it's under two years, it's under warranty, and if you are getting dropouts on every movie then you've either got a DVD player problem or a warranty-covered problem with the 1050. Just a thought before you ebay it away.

Purchased 08/30/00. Switched players & cables, still had dropouts. Replaced the receiver with a new HK 525, problem solved. Very disapointing.

My 1050 was in a tv stand and wasnt getting enough air. It was enclosed on both sides and only 1/2 inch at the top. Scott said overheating somtimes causes audio problems and when I put the 1050 on its own stand it worked fine.
