Bass Management question - 02/02/02 02:41 PM

I've read the FAQ and Tips and here's what I understand about bass mgnt (sorry for restating the obvious).

* When speakers are set to "large", all frequencies are sent to the speakers, including those below the Xover setting.

* When speakers are set to "small", all frequencies below the chosen Xover freq are sent to the LFE channel.

My question: I don't have a sub, but my speakers can't handle anything below 45 Hz, so I've set them to "small", with the LFE Off. What happens to the freqs below the Xover then? Are they simply thrown away?

You understand correctly. All information below the crossover will go away, along with the ".1" LFE info in any Dolby Digital or DTS soundtracks. You would probably use the 60Hz crossover point (or possibly the 40Hz) with your speakers.

Gonk,

You said to use the 40 crossover? I do not have that option on mine. Is there a place that I am overlooking to select it?

Oops, just double-checked the manual, and the lowest crossover point available is actually 60Hz (options are 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, and 200) -- obviously I haven't messed with the bass management on my 1050 since I got my Paradigm's last spring...
