Subwoofer problem with my 1050... - 08/05/13 10:51 PM

Hello -

I have an old Atlantic Technology BPM-62 powered sub, being fed by my 1050. Lately, when the entire system is off (with the exception of 1050 standby mode), the sub will randomly crackle and pop. The AC plug of the sub is not grounded, so I plugged into a power strip with ground plug - did not help. I tried swapping interconnect, did not help.

My first thought is that the sub is malfunctioning, but am wondering if perhaps the sub out on the 1050 might be the problem.

Any thoughts or advice are appreciated!!

Have you tried completely removing power from the 1050 so it definitely can't be providing any type of signal or disconnecting the sub from the 1050? I never experienced an issue with my sub output in all the years I had my 1050 (original buyer that recently replaced it with a 975) but that doesn't mean it can't be the culprit. I'd go for completely removing power to the 1050 and see if the sub still crackles at you. If so, that narrows down the list pretty significantly. smile

I have a similar issue with an old KLH sub. I found that having my cell phone laying on top of the sub would cause it to rumble a little. Make sure there are no RF sources close to the sub or its signal cable. Maybe an AC line is running too close and parallel.
