Magnepan 1.6 users, can you chime in? - 08/04/05 10:28 PM

I've got a Jolida 801 integrated (70 watts) that does a decent job in all ways, but as sweet as this amp is, volume levels are just not enough, regrettably. I'd like to transfer the Jolida to another room and use it with my BG Z7s. Question is for Magnepan users, can you give me your experience with the M200s and your Magnepans, and what you came from in terms of amplification prior to the Outlaw monos?

I'll be using a VAC Standard preamp.

Just curious, but why are you using tube components and then "ruining" things by doing the final amplification with a budget solid state amp? 8-)

I haven't tried the 200 specifically, but I do have the 755. It drives my Maggies just fine for both 2-channel and multi-channel programming.

If you're only after a 2-channel setup, and have the requisite budget, I've heard good things about the Lyngdorf SDA2175. It's made by the same folks that make TACT equipment. It's quite a bit more expensive at US$1490 for a 2-channel amp, but I'm told the sound is absolutely luscious. It will do 375wpc into the Maggie's 4 ohm load without breaking a sweat. I'm planning on getting one just to drive the Maggies for 2-channel stuff and keep the 755 for driving the surrounds and center for movies.

It's probably not politically correct to include a link to the amp here. Email me if you want it.

Thanks.

The Lyngdorf looks good, no doubt. I'll admit, I'm a little hesitant when a product is so brand spanking new. I'd like to see how it plays with different preamps. I won't be going SS on that front.
