Speaker selection for RR2150 - 02/27/07 05:08 AM

Living in Idaho I do not have the opertunity to test drive many speakers. I have been looking at B&W DM604 S3 speakers to use with this amp. Does anyone here have any experence with this setup? Is there a better speaker out there for around the $1200.00 a pair price range. Is a sub needed for this setup?

Thanks,
Clint

I have just received a pair of Dueval planets...they are unconventional in that they radiate 360 degrees. The sound...the music coing from these these speakers is scary! They are made in Germany and run $1195. I have run through 15 speakers over the last few years and was never happy. I wanted something different...and boy did I get it. Precision, soundstage as wide as your room....look at these speakers! www.highendaudio.com I've had speakers costing in the $10,000 range....i wouldn't go back to them! 30 day in home audition.....and I got the cherry red ones! cool!

I have a pair of REVEL F 12 Concerto's and they are unreal! Around 91db @ 1 watt, 2 8" woofers, 5.25 Midrange & 1" Dome Tweeter. All drivers are ceramic composite. A truly wonderful sounding speaker for the price you are looking to spend. I had a pair of Gallo REF 3's before I heard these and the Gallo's sell for $3000.00 a pair. I also compared them to JM Labs (Focal) and nothing in there line came close to the sound without spending at least $3000.00! Check them out...

I am thoroughly enjoying a pair of Sonus Faber Concerto home monitors, these can be found used on Audiogon well within your price range.

In fact, there's a pair posted with the original stands included for very close to your target.

I'd encourage you to try the Magnepan MMG. You can have a pair shipped to you - if you don't like them, return them within 60 days. You may feel like adding a sub - but for 550/pair plus an Outlaw LFM2 sub (quick enough for the maggies, not too big for them) you're still quite below a grand total for speakers, and get stellar results!

I'm using the original Audio Physic Steps coupled with an AP Luna sub that I am just thrilled with. There's a pair on audiogon now for $1500 but these are the updated (not necessarily better) model.
