(Newbie alert) Adding a M8 sub to 2150 help

Hi,

I recently picked up a used M8 sub to pair with my 2150. I currently have Magnepan MMG's. It looks like the MMG's go down to about 50Hz. What would be the best way to add the M8 as well as getting everything out of the MMG's (i.e keep the MMG's outputting their 50hz and let the M8 do everything under that)?

It looks like to my newbie eyes I would have to adjust the crossover frequency to 50 (one notch above 40 or thereabouts) and run a cable from 2150 "sub output" to the "L/Mono."

Does that look like way to go?

Maggies tend to pull a lot of power out of the amp at low frequencies. I have the QR 1.6s and crossed the sub at 60 hz. Although the Maggies are capable of going lower I prefer the sub to do the heavy lifting it was specifically designed for and give my main amp some extra headroom to drive the Maggies. I would cross the M8 at about 80 hz to start since it goes to about 30 hz and let the 2150 put all of its effort into driving the MMGs

Is there anything I need to do other than put the crossover knob to 80 on the sub? What about the speaker eq selector on the front and the bass management button on the back?

You want to dial the sub crossover all the way up and set the crossover switch on the back of the 2150 to 80. Doing it this way allows the 2150 to send all of the bass <80hz to the sub and everything else to the mains. Unless you are a real bassaholic I would leave the EQ switch off at least until you get the sub dialed in. You can still adjust the volume on the sub to your liking depending on your room. I usually have mine set to about 50%.
