Recording to Tape From RR2150

Recording to Tape From RR2150 - 12/15/16 01:29 AM

Hey All,

I have a 4-month old RR2150, and love it.

My question is if anyone has any guidance for troubleshooting a problem I seem to be having whereby I don't seem to be getting any signal sent from the amp to my cassette tape deck for recording?

I have tried to record, using brand new blank cassettes, on both my Kenwood and Sony cassette decks, with no luck.

I can play back cassettes from the tape decks into the Outlaw, no problem, but I'm not able to record for some reason?

I have read, and re-read, the manual about recording, etc. [on both the Outlaw and the cassette decks] and on the Outlaw, I have the "record" selector set to "phono" [as I'm trying to record vinyl records to tape]. My RCA cables seem to set properly... and it seems the rest of the set-up is pretty straightforward, on both the Outlaw and the cassette decks.

My Sony cassette deck has line-in VU record levels, and when I try to record no signal is recognized by those levels?

Any thoughts, advice, suggestions?

thanks,

Is the line input adjustment knob set to allow the proper signal to be recorded. I would check your cables again at the Tape loop connections. Check to see if you can record any other source.

I am assuming you are able to hear the TT, through the speakers, when playing vinyl? For testing purposes, please try the TUNER source, by changing the record selector switch to TUNER.

If you were to listen to the source you wished to record, and were not using an external processor, you could use the external processor output, to ensure everything is correct on your tape decks and that your RCAs are in good shape.

I tried recording using the "aux" channel on the front panel plugged into an ipad, with the record selector on "aux"... all my cables are in properly. I did get some recording on the tape, but it's extremely low volume and poor quality, and the VU meters on the tape deck still didn't move during recording, and that's with the "line-in" adjustment knob on the cassette deck turned up to '10'. ... ???... the Sony deck is newly acquired, and perhaps the "record" feature is not working, but strange that I couldn't get anything out of my Kenwood cassette recorder either?

I guess I'll try to get the Sony deck serviced.

Anyone used the "record" output with the RR2150 sent to a cassette deck?

thanks

If your tv has analog outputs, try recording audio from that. That should tell you whether the tape deck is functional.
