Who is using the 770 with Rockets (850's) - 05/22/05 09:50 AM

The title of the thread pretty much speaks for its self. I would love to get your comments. smile
I am currently running the Denon 3805, but if you are running another reciever or another Rocket speaker for that matter, please feel free to chime in.
Do you like the 770/Rocket combination?
How did it change your systom?

I use my 770 with my Ref HT. I know its not the Rockets but it's the same company. I had my 770 before the Refs got here but recently I upgraded my front Ref 1's with Ref 2's and moved the old Ref 1's to another room. I will say that through a standard HT Pioneer receiver (814 I believe) they sound dead and lifeless in comparison to my 950/770 (now 990). If I had never heard them through the 770 I probably would still like the sound, but its not the same. I guess if I had to sum it up in one thought it would be that the Ref's with the 770 are airy and dynamic but without they are still crystal clear, but a little flat.

Thanks for the feed-back Jed. smile
I really hope I see the same + results.
I have been using my 3805 and Rockets in 2 channel right now and I think they sound better the louder you play them. I have been afraid to turn them up to the point where they would possibly clip at this point because the Rockets are still pretty new, (about 55-60 hours). The loudest I have played them is -5dbl.
Anyways, I am hoping for an improvement.
I guess I will find out soon enough.
Does anyone else have Rocket speakers and the 770?

Hello Suffolk

I have been using the 950/770 combo with Rockets 850 for 4 months now. I had the 750's before and they were an excellent speaker as well, however the 850s are a big league speaker, more detailed, soundstage etc. I had a Marantz receiver before and had several recordings that I thought were very flat and dead sounding. The 770 breathes new life into these albums and makes them sound incredible like night and day difference.

I highly recommend the 770, great value-it really makes the 850's come alive! They sound better the louder you play them-I have had it cranked to 0dB with no problem- of course the gobs of CLEAN power really helps.

Hope that helps

Dannic,

Thanks for the reply. smile
I was hoping to get responces like yours.
I have the 850's for my front left and right and the big foot center and four 300's for my rears.
The 3805 is no slouch, so I am not expecting the increase to be dramatic, only noticable.
Any other Outlaw owners with Rockets?

I have 950/7100 driving RS1000s. The only problem I've had is with the 12v trigger. I'm on the pre-order list for the ULs but will probably wait to hear some reviews before I pull the trigger. Love those RS1000s. They are truly big league speakers. (The differency between the 850s and the 1000s is powered woofers in the 1000s.)

Jimsfield,

Well, I am glad you are happy with the combo.
I don't blame you for going with the UL's.
If I had not just bought my Denon 3805, I would have seriously considered the UL's my self.
I will be running the 770 with my 3805.
Let us know what you think of the UL's. smile
