770 & 950 w/ VMPS Speakers? - 05/13/04 09:42 AM

I am putting together a VMPS system (RM 40's as mains, LRC as Center Channel, Dipoles as Surrounds, and QSO Ribbons in the rear.

I am considering running an Outlaw Audio 950 Pre w/ a Outlaw Audio 770 amp. Would this setup pair well with the VMPS speakers? Is anyone out there using a similar VMPS/Outlaw combination?

Any input is appreciated!

As another fan of VMPS speakers, I recommend powering them with a heavy duty amp. I powered a pair of VMPS Tower IIse's with an Aragon 4004 amp and had excellent results for years. If you want to try the Outlaw 770, go for it. The 30 day trial offer is hard to beat. A few owners of the 770 have had some overheat problems, but most do not have any problems at all. The music modes that send full range audio to all 7 channels will be the most difficult for your amp. Movies don't use all 7 channels as much. I've read the other threads about the overheat problems and noticed that LOUD Alman Brothers or Loud Metallica have caused problems, whereas the same users watched loud movies with no troubles. Sounds like you will have 7 x 4 Ohm speakers, and that is a lot of current for a single amp.
