I went from using an Onkyo TX-DS696 powering my B&W speakers alone, to using the Onkyo TX-DS696 as a pre/pro in front of a Rotel RMB-1075 (a big upgrade all by itself) to replacing the TX-DS696 with an Outlaw Model 950. I was amazed at the difference between the 950 and the 696 as a pre/pro. It was night and day. Granted, this is not like your setup....

Yes, I believe you will. I just replaced my Onkyo TX-DS898 with a 950/7100 combo and the difference in sound is readily apparent and very positive. The bottom line with Outlaw is try it for 30 days and if not satisfied you can return it. If you return the product all it will cost you is the return shipping, but still that, in my opinion, is not bad for 30 day in home trial. That is the Outlaw standard return policy...but I won't be returning mine.

Ric, I was using an Onkyo Integra 7.0, 5 channel
at 105w per. Decided on a power amp, and also bought a B&K 7250 200w 5 channel. I use Polk speakers all around.
I decided at Christmas to try out the Outlaw 950. I bought a 'B' stock. I wanted to try out the PLII, I don't buy into all the soundfields
offered by some maufactures, too artificial for me. The Cirrus logic is something, I just watched Open Range on cable, the shoot out was amazing
I thought bullets were whizzing past my ear. Even Normal TV has more depth to it.
Last but certainly not least, thse guys have a
fantstic customer service deptartment. I got a call at home, just a follow up call. Who else ddoes that?

I used to have an Onkyo 701. My first upgrade was to get a 7100 amp and use the pre outs on the Onkyo. That was the biggest difference. Then I upgraded to the 950 . I noticed a more fluid surround sound and it was better musically but the biggest diference was adding the 7100 in the first upgrade.

Unfortunately, the 950 did not want to cooperate with my system (electrical, component allergy - who knows?) and it kept popping. This is just my luck as you can see everyone else is very happy with theirs with no problems. I ended up going with a Sherwood Newcastle P-956 which I am in LOVE with . It is an amazing pre/pro but it also retails for $1500.00. (I paid $1050.00 new).

I found the sound on the Outlaw 950 to be very good-especially for movies and excellent for the price point. It is a definite upgrade from the Onkyo sound wise but you may be frustrated with the amount of time it takes to lock onto a digital signal. I did find that sometimes it would not pick up the appropriate 'flags' as well as the Onkyo and I would have to choose them manually. Also, the Onkyo would automatically switch to 6 channel when it recognized an SACD or DVD Audio source. With the Outlaw you have to press that little button. ( I also have to with the Sherwood)

If these little things are ok with you then you couldn't do any better for the $$$$$ if sound quality is your #1 priority than the Outlaw. Now.....if you want to spend almost twice as much..... laugh

I was using a Denon as my preamp. The biggest difference in sound is the noise floor. The Outlaw is a lot quieter.

I also like the stereo bypass for listening to music.
