First impressions of new 950 - 02/06/05 06:11 PM

My 950 arrived early by 3 days so of course I could not wait and set it up today..just in time for the Superbowl. My initial impression after setup for movies was WOW! I definitely noticed much more detail than I did with the Onkyo 701 and the soundstage seems to be more fluid. I tended to notice that with the Onkyo I was always aware of the location of each effect and the sound tended to be segmented and choppy. Now keep in mind, my acoustics are not the best, but I did not move my speaker placement at all. Everything stayed the same.
As far as music I also noticed an improvement in
the crispness and clarity . The Outlaw is definitely brighter than the Onkyo but not too bright. A simple bump in the treble downwards and it was heaven. I still am playing with the bass management-that may take a bit of experimentation. I am also getting an LFM-1 to round everything out.So far so good

Welcome! Glad you like it.

You wouldn't necessarily think that there would be that much difference, that is until it is demostrated in your own house!

Of course not everyone will find Outlaw gear to be superior, but likely just about the best dang bang for the buck there is goin' these days - Yessir! (Outlaw tawkin'?)

I am curious....who would not say Outlaw gear is not superior? Everything I have read review wise has pretty much raved over their stuff. What could be the complaints ..at least at this price point?

Ok. I suppose so but I am pretty content for a while here without having to spend more money...and my friends already think I am a snob because I have something other than a home theater in a box :p so I guess it is all relative. All I know is I had family over yesterday for the Superbowl and they said I could charge admission. Besides, I have already spent about 10k....there are starving kids in the world!

The second half of the above sentence is the problem. The so-called "snobs" tend to neglect that "minor" detail. smile
