DVD-A problem HELP!! - 12/24/04 07:03 PM

I just slipped in my first DVD-A disc.. On my 950 it doesnt give me the option for choosing DTS or DD it gives me 5 stereo and other choices.I have my universal DVD player hooked up via 5.1 RCA cables and coaxial cable. When I first played my disc it showed on 950 screen that source was coaxial 1( which is right as coaxial hookup) but disc being DVD-A my signal will not be coming via the coaxial cable,it should be comingthrough via my 5.1 rca cables, correct??? I switch the 950 audio input to analog ang get no sound.Am i doing something wrong????

Push 6 channel on the remote. That should send you into six channel bypass and all should be right with the world.

I should be able to have a choice of DD or DTS though from my DVD-A disc. The cover says it will play in either of those formats.

The option will be on the DVD player, not at the 950. With DVD-Audio, you will want to switch to 6 channel as grundrc posted, at which point you will be listening to the MLP DVD-A track, which is better than the DD and DTS tracks. Those tracks are included for backward compatibility with standard players, and you may have to dig through the disc menus to get them playing, at which point you could use the coaxial digital input on the 950 to listen.

97db,

If you really want to hear the DD and DTS tracks, you'll need to go through your DVD player setup menus and set the player to "video" or "video only". This disables the DVD-A part of the player and you'll be able to access the other formats through your digital connection. You'll probably need to restart the disc after you find the proper setting.

One point about the 6 channel direct input on the 950, make sure you switch to it from a multichannel input or format. If you switch to it from a stereo source , say CD or Tuner, you'll only get two channels out of your DVD-A even though the source is sending six channels.
