surround sound help - 09/20/04 09:34 PM

I am in the middle of configuring my surrounds for a 7.1 setup. I am torn between bookshelf speakers and dipole/bipole. These will be ceiling mounted on a pedestal and am wondering what is the best for side surround and rear surround. Could I use dipole/bipole all the way around or use dipole/bipole on the sides and bookshelves in the rear? Can someone please recommend what would be the best. I have already performed the search but would like someone to pinpoint on this specific ques. Thanks. Oh yea, this setup is more for home theatre than music.

I think that some of it is personal preference. I've used both dipole (Paradigm Studio/ADP's) and bookshelf for surrounds, and find that I lean toward dipoles - I'm currently using dipoles for surround back and Axiom M3ti bookshelves for side surrounds due to mounting limitations in my space, but if there were no such limitations I'd still have dipole side surrounds and probably dipoles on the surround back.

i prefer multi polar speakers for 4th and 5th, and if you are doing 7.1, the 6th and 7th channels. if you go 6.1 the 6th would be bookshelf, while the 4th and 5th stay multi polar.
