Karaoke Player and Outlaw 950

Karaoke Player and Outlaw 950 - 05/31/04 04:00 PM

I'm thinking of getting a Karaoke player for my home theater. I'd probably get a Karaoke player that plays DVD Karaoke as well as CD+G Karaoke and perhaps also SCDG Karaoke disks. Anybody have experience with adding Karaoke to a home theater? Any specific advice about connecting a Karaoke player to the 950? I think it probably should connect like a second DVD player. Speaking of which, what's the best way to connect a secondary DVD player to the 950? Thanks!

Anybody connected a Karaoke player to their 950? If not, what's the recommended connection on a 950 for a second DVD player so it works with the remote, etc. My probable future Karaoke player should be able to play DVD, VCD, CD+G etc.

I have no clue about karaoke, but a second DVD player is not a big deal at all. I've got two DVD players now -- a DVD-Audio player that is my primary unit, and a DVD recorder. If you want to use component video switching with both players, put the second player on the Video1 input. If all you need is s-video or composite video switching, you can use any open video input (Video1, 2, or 3, or VCR). If you are bypassing the video switching, you can use any input you please. There are instructions available for programming device codes into the remote when the device button defaults to a different device type (I'm pretty sure those instructions are in the 950's manual, but I know they are in the SL-9000 manual on page 33), or you can learn the commands directly if you prefer.

I have Pioneer DVD player with Karaoke function. In Karaoke mode the DVD player cuts off digital outputs and sends out only analog signals. So you'll probably need to connect both digital and analog outputs of your Karaoke player to the 950. You may need change source input to Analog on the 950, if your Karaoke player continues to output digital signals when in Karaoke mode.
