Bass management wins out - 05/26/04 02:29 PM

The order is in now the waiting begins, I'm not a good at waiting. It really surprised me that all of the new high tech receivers and even some of the newer preamps still don't offer bass management for the 5.1/7.1 inputs. Since the OSD through component outputs has become somewhat of a nonissue one of the deciding issues came down to being able to play DVDA and SACD discs with bass management. Funny how people rip the 950 as being outdated but yet newer products fail to offer this.

You're exactly right. Analog Bass Management was the primary reason I got my 950. It works great in my setup and I wouldn't trade the 950 for anything at this point.

I purchased the P965 a couple of days ago. Analog bass management did not turn me away from the P965 because it's not a feature I'll be using any time soon. Also, an ICBM would solve that issue. I think either choice for me would have made me happy. Some day I'll get an Outlaw into my rack!

Bass management and DVD Audio were things on the top of my list so this is a much more important issue for me. I liked the 965 also and this was a major point that led to my decision to go with the outlaw. It didn't make sense to me to order a more expensive preamp and then also buy a an ICBM unit.I also really like the fact that I can get the outlaw, set it up in my theater, tweak and and play with it for a month and if there is anything I don't like I can pack it up and send it back. It's all about what's important to you.

Outlaw goes above and beyond that's for sure. I waited too long period. I should have purchased the 950 a year ago. But I had other issues going on that would have prevented me from setting it up or even enjoying it. From what I heard in their demo you will be very happy.
