are you able to adjust the subwoofer gains on the 950. The only option that i have found is to choose on or off for the sub.

Yes. Same as for the other channels. Use the Channel Calibration menu - page 27 in the Owner's Manual.

You can also use the Trim button on the remote to change the sub channel volume level.

OR you can sit closer to the sub :-)
