When Bad News Turns Good

When Bad News Turns Good - 02/01/04 02:45 PM

Well Outlaws the time has come! I recently developed a problem with my old but faithful Yamaha HTR-5150 receiver. It began making this pulsing buzzing sound in my left front speaker. I unplugged everything from the receiver, changed speakers, did everything I could think of to make the noise stop. The sound gets louder as I turn up the Volume knob, is very annoying and won’t go away. Well I pointed this out to my Wife and now it’s driving her nuts too. Now you might ask how such a sonic tragedy could turn into good news.

My loving Wife just gave me the go ahead to order a new 950/7100 combo Needless to say I’m thrilled. I’ve been haunting this site for over a year and drooling the whole time. Let me type that again, I love the way that looks in print……. A new 950/7100 combo……OH YEA!!!!!

I do have one quick question though. I already have the rca connections to hook the 950 to the 7100 but does it come with the trigger wire?

I would also love to hear what kind of improvements I should expect with the new combo over my old entry level Yamaha.

Thanks Outlaws

Hey Lasher,
My 950 was used, but nontheless it did not come with the trigger cable, maybe the 7100 includes it? I've set my Amp (Anthem) to auto and that seems to work pretty well.

Cheers

From what I understand, Outlaw has been including trigger cables with their amps starting with the 770 (the 750's didn't include a trigger, but everything else has), in which case the 7100 would include the trigger. Any 950/770, 950/755, or 950/7100 combo buyers out there able to confirm this?

That's what I thought. I did not see it for sale on the site so it must be included. Thanks for the info guys So how about telling me what I should expect in improvements over my old Yamaha? Has anyone here upgraded from Yamaha recievers? Any info would help.

Thanks Again

Lasher I upgraded from a Yamaha receiver to the 950/770 and have never looked back. I really liked the Yamaha when I had it but I couldn't be happier with my decision to go with the Outlaw's.

Lasher, don't forget to come back and post your impressions. I have a Yamaha RX-V2200 and I've been toying for some time with upgrading to a 950/7100 combo (or perhaps the 950/770). I would definitely like to hear your opinion on the amount of improvement in sound quality.

Lasher,
I read you review. It was excellent and makes me want this combo even more. In the short term I have purchased a pair of M-200s to 'help' my front speakers, BA VR-M90s. These made a significant improvement in the sound from these. So I'll hold off a little longer before upgrading the the 950/+7-channel amp.
