950 Remote Control

950 Remote Control - 01/15/04 10:50 AM

Recently left baby sitter at home with my 950.

I explained to her how to operate my system which I think is pretty straight foward. My girlfriend can do it and she's a blonde.

Upon my return home, when I selected my source on the remote for SAT, the 950 switched to the correct source, but the TV switched to channel 3 at the same time.

I use the video input on my TV for all video sources so this change to channel 3 produces only snow. I'm not sure why suddenly the remote is changing the TV from line input to channel 3 when I select SAT from the remote.

I do not think the source button at the top of the remote are marco capable, so this is very confusing. I have no idea on how to correct this problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

That's a new one on me... The 950's manual and the SL-9000 manual both make no mention of being able to program a macro into the source buttons. The MX-500's device buttons can have macros assigned to them, but you have to hold the buttons down for one second to activate those macros (which doesn't sound like what you are experiencing). You can learn additional commands to the source buttons (such as the "3" signal for your TV), but I don't see a way to do that inadvertantly. I suppose you might try using the "how to delete a macro" instructions with the SAT button, but it is a bit risky. (Undocumented tricks can be bad: there's one undocumented code for the 1050's remote -- 981 -- that wipes out all programming, but it takes the codes to control the 1050 out in the process, requiring a new remote.) You may want to pop on over to Outlaw's support page or call their tech support line (866-688-5292) and see what they can do for you.

Thanks Gonk. I sent an email request to customer support explaining my problem.

I hope there is a simple solution.

Thanks again.

Yeah, there is. Don't let the babysitter play around with your system.

Once you find out what happened and how to correct it, come back and let the rest of us know! Some of us tend to be curious

The remote learned my components via the 3 digit codes. So I am only guessing here. But could someone have accidentally manually assigned the "channel 3" button from the TV remote to the SAT button on your 950 remote?

Steve has responded to your Outlaw Support Center request.

Hello Harold,

I think a command from the "Sat" mode on the remote may be corrupt. I
would recommend "unlearning" the Sat keys as outlined on page 40 of your
manual. You will be following the instructions to "Erase all learned
commands in one device mode" After that step, learn your Sat box to the
"Sat" function key. This procedure should restore the remote to proper
operation. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

Thanks and Regards,

Steve

I tried this but the SAT button would did not respond as the instructions said it should. The problem remains. Also the SAT button will not accept any new codes.

Re: 950 Remote Control - 01/22/04 04:50 PM

I have a similiar problem with my remote. Whenever I select "aud" and then hit power to turn the 950 on or off, the "sat" button and the red LED light up like there is an error. I've tried unlearning the entire remote, but it doesn't reset. I've also tried just unlearning the aud and sat functions, they don't reset either. I just get up to turn it off.

The power button can learn macros, and it sounds like your power button has been taught one. To erase the macro, press "AUD" and "MUTE" at once, then press the "POWER" button to select that button, then press "CHANNEL UP" to erase the macro on the power button. That should hopefully get you back on track.

Re: 950 Remote Control - 01/22/04 05:15 PM

Having seen this issue a few other times, please allow me to confirm that there is a problem with your remote. You mentioned that you have attempted to erase any macros. My suspicion is that when following the macro erase instructions on page 39 you are pressing the M1, M2, M3 or M4 button on step 2. However, the macro command that you may have inadvertently programmed is not on one of these designated macro buttons, but rather the Power Off button.

To erase the macro command on the "Power Off" button, please use the following procedure:

1) Press AUD and MUT buttons simultaneously.
The red LED and the AUD button remain lit.

2) Press the POWER button.

3) Press the CHANNEL UP button to store the command.

The stored sequence is now erased from the power button.

If you follow this procedure, you will be able to use the power off command for the Model 950 again. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Gonk and Scott....worked like a charm.
Hopefully, I'll have my 950 back soon (out for repair) to try it out!!
