Audio Drops w/ upgraded cables

Audio Drops w/ upgraded cables - 12/13/03 07:11 PM

Sorry for posing this question again after all the previous threads, but I am getting the darn audio drop outs from a new 950 just recieved on yesterday. I just upgraded cables to the the Monster MS and Ultra THX cables - both the optical and coax (2 of each).

Everything is connected and the drops are starting with reckless abandon. The 950 is isolated so its staying pretty cool. all the power runs are away from the interconnects and SAT/HDTV cable runs. I am wondering if the UPS gus dropped the box or something and jiggled a thing or two our of wack.

I have tried the both the coax and the optical with the same results on both the SAT box and both DVD players. The set top and dvd players have be connected to my Denon gear and have been working fine forever. I just moved the Denon out the way and slid in the 950.

I have cycled through a stack of about 20 DVDs just to make sure this is an equipment issue and I am at a lost at this point. I am replacing cables for the 3rd time tonight, but I doubt that I have been the buyer of 6 bad toslinks and 6 bad coax cables this weekend.

TIA

I agree with Dan. That behavior sounds extremely odd.

I was seeing the exact same thing on my system this summer. I have narrowed it down to a possible heat issue or power (having too many things on the same 15 amp circuit). Since I have not had the dropouts for a few months and it has been much cooler, I am leaning towards the heat problem theory. I was going crazy swapping cables etc., before. Just wanted to let you know that you are not the only person with this problem.

Steve and I talked last weekend and he assisted with a couple of test I had not performed. Problem persisted. The unit is isolated on its own circuit which feeds a Panamax 5510 AC Regenerator to clean up the power. I also have the 950 sitting by its self with nothing on top blocking the vents. Ventilation is good.

Support is taking care of getting the unit exchanged for me.

These guys are just freaking awesome! I just might have to break down and put a pre/pro/amp combo in the bedroom with service like this!

EDIT - nevermind, looks like Outlaw's got it under control...

Hot Darn! Got the replacement 950 in and the neighbors are bringing over steaks, popcorn, and beer!

Steve stated in the support call that my problem may have been originating at at "digitial cop" (?) Not sure what that is, but the new one must have made Digital Captain, because the house is shaking again.

I upgraded all the cabling to my Paradigms while I was waiting on the new unit. Life is good again and the dog is hiding.

Next: SVS PCI 20-39 vs. the 6 year old PS1000
