S-video issues

S-video issues - 12/08/03 03:43 PM

Has anyone had problems with their S-video input or output on their 950? I've been having some sporadic problem where the picture will go either completely black, or more often the picture will break into basic colors with just outlines of the images remaining. Both problems last only a few seconds before the picture returns to normal but they cycle fairly regularly every minute or so.

I've narrowed the problem down to either the cable or the 950's s-video input (no problems watching DVD through component input or satellite run directly to the TV). If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it before I go and tear apart the the rats nest behind the system. thanks.

Unfortunately, I can't help much on that -- used my 950's s-video inputs for all the video switching for over a year and a half now without any such problems. What source is exhibiting this behavior?

It's the satellite receiver (RCA). I don't get the interference when I go direct from the sat to TV however. The VCR and DVD don't exhibit the problem and they are both routed through the 950.

if you bypass the 950 using the same cables and the problem goes away, you can rule the cables out. I would contact Outlaw for service..

Well the results are in and it's the 950's s-video input that is bad. After switching cables, and more switching cables that is the only culprit. Of course Outlaw customer service rides to the rescue and saves the day. When you get down to it returning via mail is alot easier than fighting traffic over in retail land to get to somewhere like Best Buy (however doing this four times now is getting a little frustrating).
