950 Remore: Power Button only shuts down - 11/20/03 05:57 PM

Hi all -

Wierd thing happened to my remote, I can't use the Power button to Power the unit (though pressing any of the top buttons(AUD for example) will power the unit.

The power button is only good for powering down. Is there any way to factory reset the remote?

That is the way its supposed to work. It should be viewed as a convenience, but it could cause confusion as well. If you ever use macros, you will be happy they did it this way.

But the power button has ALWAYS powered up my system before.

That's the issue here

-- the drawback of discrete power on/off buttons. I used to kid a roommate of mine in college because his TV remote had separate power on and power off buttons. It's not a problem with the remote, but instead is a conscious design decision by Outlaw (probably due in part to many complaints about the absence of discrete on/off remote codes for the 1050). There's no way to change the behavior. There is a very good reason for it, though, as Jed mentions -- macros. The 950/AUD button can be considered the equivalent of an "on" button, but I generally just use the input I want to use to turn it on (or the macro I set up for my wife, which turns on 950, cable box, and TV, and sets the remote to operate the cable box).
