Balanced Interconnecta and New Ground Loop! - 08/13/06 11:19 AM

I just introduced some DH Labs Balanced XLR interconnects in my system and now it appears I have a ground loop. Before my system was dead quiet with RCAS. I have tried removing each component one by one and the only improvement I get is removing the HDMI cables going from the TV and Sat to my Anthem D2. Even after that there is an audible hum. I am ready to return my XLRs for RCAs.

I have my amp and my pre on a dedicated 20amp circuit. Everything else except the sub is hooked up to my Monster HTS2500 power conditioner.

My Gear if it helps.
Eartquake Cinenova 5 channel Amp
Anthem Statement D2 Pre
Pioneer Elite 79avi (as cd player)
Toshiba HD A1 (as DVD player)
Dish Sat HD DVR 942
Samsung HLS6187 TV
SVS PB12 Ultra/2 sub

I am remodeling so this is all the gear I have hooked up at the moment.

I will also be hooking up 2 Outlaw monos for the rears, An SMS-1, and another PB12 sub.

Odd that introducing balanced cables produced a hum... Have you disconnected the cable from your satellite receiver to see if that could be the grounding issue source?

How long is the run between your D2 and Cinenova? If you're only going a few feet, it might simply be a matter of going back to unbalanced cables. Unless you're running a long distance or operating in a far more EMI/RFI hostile environment than a home, the case for running balanced cables can be a tough one to make (especially if the balanced cables cause more problems than they solve).
