Using ICBM without outputs

Using ICBM without outputs - 06/23/06 04:15 AM

Just ordered 990/1770.
Now of course I want to use balanced connections. But since I have a lot of SACD's I want to use the cinch outputs of the 990 to connnect to my ICBM.
Does the 990 carry signal on both the XLR and cinch outputs simultaneously?
Will it be possible to instruct the ICBM to direct all bass to the subwoofer output?
I would leave the 6ch outputs unconnected and set the 7.1 on the 990 to "direct".
Does anyone know whether SACD and DVDA music discs have output through the LFE channel?
When I spin the the Eagles' Hotel California disc it sure sounds that way...

Bass on the LFE channel on SACD and DVD-Audio discs are mix dependent. In other words, it varies from disc to disc. Some have it, some don't.

"cinch" confused I have no idea what you mean by that term. Please explain.

Sure. That's kind of what it's made for. Pick the crossover levels for all of your speakers and send the bass to the sub. The question becomes why use an ICBM with a 990?? It's my understanding that the 990 includes most of the features you would get from an ICBM. The 990 would also apply these features to the balanced outputs you seem so concerned with.

@Jason J
Cinch is what we use in Europe for the RCA (phono) plugs.
About the bass:
I think it will be best to suck it and see (listen) when the things finally have made it over the big pond...
About the ICBM:
It IS a very useful thing, and a tweaker's heaven, but sometimes a hell, because a nerd like me will never stop twiddling the knobs...
