icbm and 7125 - 01/21/06 01:44 PM

I was just wondering if the the icbm would work better between the yamaha rxv 2500 I have and the 7125 or use it as intended between the dvd player and the reciever, what are the pros and cons to both?

The ICBM will work in both arrangements. The only caveat to putting it between the Yamaha and the amp is that you may want to set all of your speaker delays to zero so that you don't get phase issues in the analog bass management circuits of the ICBM.

do you think I should try both ways to see what seems to work best? and what do mean by delays, do you mean the distance settings or do you mean the millisecond settings? And as always thank you so much for your help. You have saved me a lot of headaches.

With all the hardware in hand, the only obstacle to trying both is the time spent shuffling cables - that's a low enough cost of admission that it seems OK to try it.

Distance settings and millisecond settings should be the same thing - all the distance setting does is decide how many milliseconds to apply rather than making you do the math yourself. Does the Yamaha offer both? (It shouldn't, but I suppose anything's possible.)

I just checked the manual for the yamaha and I can set the distances for each speaker separately and the milliseconds setting seems to be for an audio delay to synchronize the sound output to the video image. so do you think I should set the distances to the default of 10 feet, right now I have them set to different distances 13 to 14 for fronts and center{thats how far they are from my seating position} as I used the auto set up and it seems to work out pretty good.

OK, the ms delay is an AV sync - that makes sense. That is applied to all channels equally, so it wouldn't matter what you do with it.

Boy am I confused, I haven't even taken the unit out of the box yet, I was looking thru the manual and on step 5 it say set bm on player or processer/receiver to large or off so fuul range is sent to icbm, however do not make ajustments to bm or speaker configuration settings in pro or receiver, so it is my understanding to set all large or off in my denon dvd player and thats it don't touch any thing in my reciever is this correct {I thought I knew about this stuff, boy was I wrong}

What the manual is saying is that any source upstream of the ICBM needs to have all bass management disabled (which means setting speakers to large and sub to on so you don't end up redirecting the LFE track to the mains), but if you have it between player and receiver then your receiver still needs to have its bass management set normally for use with digital sources. Your understanding is correct for an ICBM placement between Denon and Yamaha.

finally got the icbm hooked up , quite the difference, can't wait to try it between the yamaha and the 7125, two questions if I may, on the sub level control there is a line is this a reference {no cut or no boost] and when the 7125 comes should the hookup be yamaha to sms-1 then to icbm then to sub, also I just want to say I appreciate all the help, especially GONK, he is a great asset to this forum
