Are the 755 amps gone?

Are the 755 amps gone? - 10/22/05 06:49 PM

I don't see the amps listed anymore in the "shop" section of the website. Wonder if they are all gone now. I'm just glad I got a couple before they disappeared.

According to the Model 755 page they've discontinued it, but still have 770's in stock.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that they're not far away from rolling out new 200W multichannel amps...

They're definitely gone. An acquaintance of mine listened to my gear and liked it about 2 weeks ago. On Friday (2 days ago) he tried to order a 755 and was told there weren't any left.

Arghhhh....I just called him and he said he bought a Rotel RMB-1095 yesterday since he was itching to purchase. The Rotel salesman told him that their RSP-1068 was "better" than the Outlaw 990 so he bought that too. That would have been a painless couple of grand for Outlaw and now my friend is going to realize that he paid more money for (from my perspective) worse sound.

Note to the Outlaws....in the future, you might not want to kill off the existing product line until their replacements are ready.

Ritz,

I can understand Outlaw not wanting to produce more of a line when a new product is on the horizon. Your friend could have bought the 770 and still came in $200 under the price of the Rotel or bought the combo 770/990 and saved even more dough.

Yep,

I told the guy to buy Outlaw equipment, but he had it in his head that he wanted a 5-channel amp and the 7125 wasn't powerful enough for him. Since Outlaw hasn't announced a delivery schedule for the new amps, he wasn't willing to just wait around. Once the Rotel sales ween had his hooks into him, it didn't take long to talk him into a "matched pair" Rotel amp+processor. I'm going to help him set things up today and I suspect he'll probably wish he'd skipped the Rotel gear. But we'll see.

Just a follow-up.

The Rotel amp sounds fine, but I'm not terribly fond of the Rotel pre/processor. I think the 990 definitely sounds more transparent. An Outlaw-based system would definitely have sounded better and cost less, but my pigheaded friend didn't want to wait. He's going to let the equipment "burn in" for a few days and then we're going to do a series of listening comparisons with a couple of CDs that we both like. We'll see how that goes.

Ritz -- Look forward to the comparison, as I was considering a Rotel pairing until I listened to the 990/755 with my Def Techs. To my ears, the Outlaw has a better sound, and my wallet certainly feels less pain!

Best -- Bob

RFC,

Yep, you can see from my signature how I feel about the relative value propositions of Rotel vs Outlaw. The 990/755 combo seems to work well with both my def techs and the maggies. At some point soon, I'm going to add 2 more channels by getting a "fancier" stereo amp for the mains, but the 990/755 is rock solid for a top notch theater system.

Cheers,
