Hum from all speakers - 05/04/05 08:42 AM

I hooked up my new 755 last night and was eager to try it out. Well to my dissapointment i have a hum coming from every speaker that is connect to the unit. Could i solve this by buying a monster power cleaner? Any suggestions would be appreciated i would like to fix this tonight. THanks!

Try re-seating every cable between and amongst your components. A loose connection could cause hum.

I tried that and that didn't seem to be a problem. They are locked on. It seems to be interference of some sort. I am thinking i need to run my Coax from my Satellite and HDTV antenna through the monster power cleaner and it should get rid of my problems. Do you think that would work?

It sounds like a ground loop issue. Try unhooking the coax from your satellite and see if it disappears. If it does, there are some isolators that can be had for much less than a Monster unit to address the problem. Also, make sure your power cables aren't intertwined with interconnects.

If your audio and power cables must intersect (as they do for most of us with real world setups), do your best to make sure they intersect perpedicular to each other (90 degrees offset). Any EM interference would be at the minimum that way.

In my experience, however, the Coax cable is the culprit 90 percent of the time. What gonk says is true - isolators for coax are cheap and effective - however if you don't have a power line conditioner (here comes my sermon laugh ), I suggest you get at least a basic one to make sure your new 755 is around for a while.

id say ground loop. but sometimes the rca connector on your interconnects can cause a hum too, but that is more for a specific speaker. so if you are getting a hum in them all, then you should try disconnecting the coaxial cable from the setup/cable box and see if that does the trick. if so, then you can try to connect IT to a different power supply; if that doesnt work get a ground loop isolator.

One quick fix for this problem is the EBTech 8 Channel Hum Eliminator, which completely kills the hum on all channels.

Good luck with this problem, it can be very frustrating.
