After hearing great reviews about the Rocket Speakers I am thinking about putting down some cash for one of their packages. I am looking at the RS 750 Front, RSC 200 Center, RS 750 Rear along with rears to match. The questions I have is that I currently have the 1050 and know that there is no way that this will power such hungry speakers. What Outlaw combo would you use to run this system? Thanks!

Well, Pat Sklenar is driving a pair of RS750's with his Model 1050 (granted, they are the only load on the 1050, but still...). I drove Paradigm Reference Studio/60's, a Studio/CC, and three Studio/ADP's with a 1050 for about six months, although I did later add a Model 750 amp to the mix. You might start with just the 1050 and add either a 755 or a few 200's later (retaining the 1050 as a pre/amp) if you decide it's necessary.

Gonk, thanks for the help. So you think that my 1050 can run two RS750 fronts, a center and two additional RS750 rears? That seems like a lot for the 1050. Would you go for the Model 750 amp or a few 200's? Which would be the wiser choice?

The RS750 specs list the power handling as being 25W to 200W, so I think the 1050 should drive them, although a separate amp might drive them better. Keep in mind that even though you'll have RS750's for surrounds, the demand put on surround speakers with DVD soundtracks is not as great as the center or mains. If you find that you want or need more than the 1050 can offer, I'd probably go with a 755.

Did you ever make a decision? I know I'm way late but I'm running a pair of 750's, 200, 300's, and 150's off a 950/7100 combo and the 7100 does an admirable job. The 750's could probably use a bit more juice for dynamics but I can already get to ear bleeding levels and could use the additional money elsewhere.

No have not made a move as of yet. Looking at getting a new car so all is on hold. I am looking at running the rockets on the 1050 plus getting some 200's. My way of thinking is that I can always use the 200's in any config if I want to upgrade out of the 1050. Only issue is paying for the Rocket system I want.

i have the system in question, and for regular HT stuff it's great. the 1050 works very well, although there is a hint of upgrade-itis whenever i visit this site

You would do well to check out Axiom Loudspeakers also. I was recently looking to upgrade speakers and was torn between Axiom, Rocket, and Paradigm. The Paradigms I was able to audition sounded fantastic, and I was told that the Rockets were a lot like them...sort of laid back. Then I started visiting the Axiom forum (just like I did the Outlaw forum before I bought the 950...go figure). After hearing the rave reviews online and in print, I called Axiom and discussed what I had in mind. They suggested either the M22tis or the M60tis. I decided that my Parasound 85X5 amp could handle the 4 ohm loads of the M80tis, and the added sensitivity of the flagship speakers would give me plenty of headroom with a modestly powered amp. What a great buy! I bought 2 mains, a center, and 2 surrounds, all their top of the line. I bought, however, from their outlet store (a website page marked as "special deals". They did not have what I wanted, so I called. They gave me the exact system I wanted for 10% off (outlet items) and an additional 5% off as a package deal. These speakers are each perfect in every way, not a blemish that I could find. The entire system was $1,632 SHIPPED! M80tis, VP-150 center, QS-8 surrounds. They were slightly harsh for the first few hours, as they seemed very "stiff". After that, they smoothed out into a very revealing, up front system. These speakers are better than the Paradigms, and, although they will sound quite different from the Rockets, may sound better to you. See if you can audition them in your area...on the Axiom website forum, there are many people who will invite you into their homes for a listen.

I have the following 7.1 Rocket setup 750/200/750/300/300/300/300. The two 300s in the rear are wired in phase as monopoles. In addition I have two 250s that I originally was going to use as the rears but for physical mounting reasons went with the rewired 300s. I keep the 250s around in the corners for multi-channel music. I power all this with a 755 and two M200s for the F/R and F/L.

I really, really like the Rocket sound. I upgraded from Klipsch Ref 3 series and although they were OK with HT movies I would literally be driven out of the room listening to music on them. The beauty IMHO of the 750s is how you can really push them and not get fatigued. If you want a bright in your face speaker look elsewhere.

I've been told the Axiom line is a brighter speaker although I've never heard them. The Rocket finish is the best I've ever seen on a speaker I believe the Axioms use vinyl. I'm obviously biased but I think the Rockets are in another league although when it comes to speakers everybody has a different opinion of what is best.

I'm a big fan of Internet Audio companies including Axiom. The bang for the buck and customer service you get from companies such as SVS, Outlaw and AV123 is just incredible. The down side for speakers is they can be difficult to audition but the pay off for the extra work is worth it.
