It'd be nice to access either a network server or external hard drive and play FLAC files without any sort of trans-coding. I'd suggest looking at the R-972 manual at Sherwood's site. I haven't read the manual in a while, but I don't think it has a network jack. The R-972 supports MP3 and WMA files stored on a USB storage device (formatted as FAT16 or FAT32), but there's no mention in the 972 manual of other supported formats.
