I received my new LFM-1 EX sub last week and finally hooked it up on Saturday. At that time I did not notice anything odd, however on Sunday I noticed a slight hum when I was physically right next to the sub, I did not hear this noise on the previous day. This hum gets louder when you turn the volume control up. So I started the process of elimination.

1st - Disconnected all AVR components to attempt to isolate - no luck hum is still there.
2nd - Removed power cord from surge suppressor and plugged directly into wall - no luck hum is still there.
3rd - Move power plug to another outlet and hum did not go away.
4th - By accident unplugged LFE cable and hum got even worse.

Is this normal? Do I have a bad subwoofer or amp? The sub has only been in service now for two days - 12/14 and 12/15.

Nancy,

Yes, Jim provided incredible customer service. I have never had to work on a sub before so hopefully I don't mess it up. I have a tendency to over tighten everything.

Can you offer any set up advice for setting up with a Yamaha YPAO system? I started with sub volume at 5 on setup and the AVR set the sub at -10.0 db and gave me an error message. Set it at 3 and got -7.5 db. What is the best method to set up using the auto correction program? Afraid when I turn volume down on sub I will turn it to the point I have no base.

I have it setup for Max Output as my area is around 4,000 cubic feet.

I would always start with our sub between 10 and 12 o'clock and then use the Yamaha to balance the channels from there. That should give you some headroom to go up, or most likely down from there. Need anymore help? You are always welcome to reach us @ 1-866-OUTLAWS between 9AM-5:30PM M-F Eastern time.
