bought an oppo DVD player. 8-)

I've currently got the Samsung HD841 which has recently gotten notoriety for being able to turn off both DVD region locks and HDCP with specific codes pressed on the remote. So I guess I'll be able to sell mine on Ebay to pay for the new Oppo. 8-)

I only switched because the Samsung seems finicky about reading DVD-R discs on occasion (but only from certain manufacturers...cough cough...memorex...cough cough....).

Cheers,

Welcome to the club, Ritz. I've quite enjoyed my Oppo, and it's handled every disc I've thrown at it (although I don't think I've tried DVD+R, it may not be compatible with them).

It says "DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, CD-R/RW" on the website. So I'm hoping it works OK with recorbable media.

Now your confusion when I mentioned that the Samsung sent upsampled output to the componenet outputs makes more sense. The MPAA is suing Samsung and specifically names this player in the suit. 8-)

Cheers,

Cool - I'll have to hunt down a DVD+R and give it a whirl (I think my burner will even do dual-later +R for a really good challenge). I know that DVD-R and CD-R work fine, and their customer service has been too good for them to slip up on something like that.

eek - I hate to see Samsung getting slapped for trying to provide the analog HD market with a useful product, even if I'm not surprised by it.

I have been very pleased with my Oppo player and I have seen that they will be introducing a DVD recorder this year. Has anyone heard when it might be available or what the price will be?

I'm not sure when the recorder will show up, but they've been pretty responsive to my e-mails in the past - you might drop them a line.

I tried making a dual-layer DVD+R today to see what the Oppo thought of it, and it worked like a charm. Cool!
