Hey all, new to Outlaw but looking forward to giving it a try. Bought a 990 and 7700 amp.
Still waiting for the amp to arrive. In my current set up I am running an old Adcom 2 channel amp to drive 2 passive 12" subs. Since I am only goint to be running 5 channel right now I would like to use the 2 remaining channels on the 7700 to drive my subs. Question, is this advisable? My mains are 8 ohms and will be connected with balanced cables. My subs are 4 ohm and would need to be hooked up with single ended rca connections.
Given the much larger load that would be placed on 2 of the amps channels as well as the different connection types is it a good idea?
The old Adcom is only rated for 100 watts per channel (I assume at 8ohms). I have always wanted more power to the subs but I don't want to tax the amp and give up sound quality on my main channels. I know the amp is rated for 4 ohm loads but just wonder about the uneven load per channel. This will only be a temporay solution until I can buy a new powered sub.

Any input??

Thanks in advance.

I doubt that driving a pair of 12" subs would overly burden the 7700 - that's one heck of a lot of amp. The 7700 is perfectly comfortable driving a mix of impedance loads. I'd say "go for it." Oh, and let us know how it sounds, of course. wink

Thanks Gonk, guess I'll try it both ways and see how it sounds.
