I just purchased a 970 and have a couple of questions regarding the remote.

1. The remote will power off the 970 but will not power it on. What is the problem? Can I reprogram it or does it need to go back?

2. I have a Directv HD DVR Receiver (H20). Does anyone know the 4 digit code for the 970 remote?

Thanks.

I can answer the first one easily enough. The 970 uses discrete power on and off codes (done to make remote macros much easier). The "Power" button serves as the discrete power off command. Any input button (DVD, CD, Video1 through Video4, Tape, Aux) will serve two purposes: set the 970 to that input, and turn it on if it isn't already on. So, to turn it on just press the button for the input that you plan to use.

I'll take a stab at the second, but it's going to include some guesswork. The 970's remote (a Catalyst48 manufactured by UEI) uses the same database as a lot of other remotes (UEI being a very large manufacturer). The best-documented siblings are the Radio Shack/One-For-All "JP1" remotes, and a great resource for them is HiFi Remote . I'm not sure who builds DirecTV's boxes, as they aren't listed as a manufacturer in either Outlaw's manual or on HiFi Remote's satellite code list . I think that the H20 is made by Hughes (suggesting codes 0749, 1142, or 1749), but my bit of web searching was not entirely conclusive. I'd start there, but you might also need to try some other codes from the lists in Outlaw's manual and the HiFi Remote site.

Thank you for the answer to the first question and the attempt at the second. My understanding is that that it is a Hughes. I have tried all the Hughes codes and none of them work.

Even though it's a Hughes box, they might be using other codes (in the cable box industry, for example, it's common for boxes to use a standard set of codes in one market even with several different manufacturers' boxes because it simplifies keeping remotes stocked). Unless someone around here with a 970, 990, or 1070 and an H20 can offer a specific code that worked for them, I'd look for some other common codes (ones that appear for more than one manufacturer) and try them as well.
