Hi all.

I just bought the SMS-1, and am running a Def Tech PF15TL+ sub. I like the idea of putting the sub where I sit and finding the spot with the smoothest response curve (at least smoothest before doing the self or auto eq).

My listening position is my couch, but will I not be taking something away by putting the sub on the soft couch? Do I need something like a wood board under the sub? What about putting it on the coffee table if I pull it up against the couch where I sit?

Pointers are greatly appreciated.

I am sure more questions will follow as I get familiar with the SMS-1.

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah....how about just sitting the sub on the floor in front of my listening position where my feet would sit?

Sorry...I subscribe to the 'there is no dumb question' deal

...of course I do after my first post! smile

Yes! I can move my couch back (it's three feet off the back wall), and will report back after I have given this a shot.

Front right corner! Surprise smile

I let the SMS do a Self EQ, threw on Blade II and was very happy.

If you know the movie, the scene when Blade and the Vampire pack are getting ready to enter the Vampire Club.

First, the thunder now gives that nice little rumble that I feel when thundering outside!

Second, the bass in the background music when the pack is walking towards the club was tighter and deeper.

Lastly, was when the sliding door to the club opened up, and the music was blaring. Previously, the bass sounded 'blatty' if that makes any sense. Now, it sounds like that bass in a club! Moreso when the pack was upstairs from the club; THAT sounded and FELT like being on another floor from the club itself (this I remember from personal experience).

Anyway, now I get to go through all my favorite FX scenes across all my favorite movies. This is going to be cool and will hold me over until the Spring comes and I can get on my Harley.

Lastly, I think the SMS-1 is a very nice addition to my home theater, and I thought the Outlaws did a nice job with their SMS User's Guide. I haven't even touched the surface of what this can do, but that'll probably be for next Winter.

Hey jesestito:
That comment was in fun.
Theres an old chesnut that goes soething like:
What do hound dogs and Harley davidsons have in common?
1. Same initials, HD.
2. Both command tremendous loyalty from their owners.
3. Both love to ride in th back of pick up trucks.
Old Koyaan, now well into retirement, spent the last decade or so of his carrer working for a company that made most of Harley's fueling systems and I can attest that they a sticklers for quality and reliability.
Back in my biker days, however, owning a Harley was like owning a pair of Quads. You were never really happy with them, but nothing else really compared.
