I have a dedicate HT (15'W X 24'D X 14'H) and my mains are Martin Logan Aeon i's. Because of the airy sounds stage the Logan's present, some reverberations are present....but they sound great! Without a doubt I need to install sound panels but where? Are there common locations they should go, do I install them in the front and back of the room, will I need to put some on the ceiling because of the height, or is it hit and miss?

Conventional wisdom for sound panels: sit in the listening location, have a helper move a mirror along the wall and mark everywhere you can see a reflection of a speaker from your location. These are the prime areas for sound diffusion panels, on first order reflections. Other than that, bass traps in the corners come recommended, but there are more knowledgable folks around here who can speak to them.

See some older threads on them, here and here and here.

Sigh... Let's contain the clocks to their own area, shall we? There's a specific question at hand here.

There are some good rules of thumb for sound treatment. Corners are often good places to start, as are the first reflection points (which can be determined with some analysis of the room geometry or even just a mirror to find points on the wall where you can see a reflection of the speaker from the "sweet spot"). You can get very carried away with it, but most folks who have dug into it find that the first few panels (when properly placed) yield the greatest benefit.

A couple sites that have cropped up around here as useful resources for both information and the panels themselves are GIK Acoustics (which has a pretty detailed FAQ ), RealTraps (which also has a good HowTo page), and Auralex . The traps in wingnut\'s system are from RealTraps, and stabie has some Auralex stuff.

Yes, these clocks do have a big effect on your room but they also improve your TV picture too. They will improve every stereo or TV that is in your house! I know this is hard to believe but this is a major break-though product! smile
