I have an old Kenwood M2 amp that I am trying to have repaired,I have a feeling the parts might be unobtainable,I still have the kenwood C1 preamp that goes with it,I am debating on what to do if the amp is unrepairable, go with a RR2150 or a pair of M2200's. The Kenwood was 220 WPC and were used with a pair of Klipsch Heresys.Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, the Heresy is 99dB efficient - the Kenwood's 220WPC or the 2200's 200WPC will be huge overkill on power. The 2150 would actually be overkill on power, for that matter, although that's not a bad thing.

but with extra juice you gain headroom and dynamics. no such thing as to much power.

Yeah, but if you need 10 or 15 watts to make your ears bleed, the difference between 100W of amp and 200W of amp is meaningless. smile

I have the RF-82s and other very efficient Klipsch speakers. They are so easy to drive without a lot of power to ear splitting levels that I turned on the limiter on my Onkyo to prevent hurting myself. At 99db efficient, 35 watts of power is 114db of sound pressure at one meter. Way overkill. The Heresy is only rated to 100 watts isn't it. If you ever put 100 watts to it, you will likely regret it. Many other speaker companies need to drive their units with massive power to allow the speaker to produce the same sound that Klipsch does at a fraction of the power.

I know what you mean, I have never had to go above 9:00 on the volume with the Kenwood.that is why I wanted to know if the RR2250 would be enough.

im running a set of 4ohm speakers rated at 200wpc and an efficiency of 92db. im using a 150wpc @ 4ohm amp and it seems to struggle to get the room to pressure, and the bass extension is not enough to satisfy me. the dynamics are ok at low volumes but quickly decline with gain. my room is 12.5ftx25ft. all watts are not created equal. i suppose that contradicts myself a bit, but it also proves a point.

Jimna, I have seen your PIX of that room and I am not surprised you need more power to pressurize that room. That has got to be the deadest room I have ever seen. I know you described it in your post but what is the material you used for the absorber?

its not as dead as it looks. i used a membrane on most of them to absorb lows while reflecting highs, but you cant see that with the fabric of course. i used owens corning 703 and 705 rigid fiberglass panels. i did update the thread also, and as you can see i removed some of the HF absorption too. 75% of what you see is bass trapping.
