I'm thinking about getting 3-2200's to drive the front's (Paradigm Studio 100's) and center (Paradigm Studio CC-690) and let the receiver drive the two surrounds in a 5.1 system I'm preparring for. Now I see something that gives me some concern about the 2200's and that is standby power consumption. So, could I get a clear answer as to how much each 2200 will consume:

* In standby waiting to be triggered on
* Triggered ON but with a 0.0mV signal

Thanks,

Brian

I'm not sure about the power consumption when triggered on but with a 0.0mV input, but the specs make the standby power consumption pretty clear:
Quote:
Power Consumption: 600 watts maximum/<3 watts standby
You're looking at less than three watts per amp in standby mode. If I had to guess about the consumption when on with no signal, I'd say you're probably looking at 10 to 30 watts - that's just a guess, though, and Outlaw tech support may have a better answer for you.

I had seen the reference to 3W in the specifications for the 2200, but when I read some of the threads here about substantial heat from units in standby I'm forced to ask why. If they consume 3W in standby then you could just about wrap them in plastic to prevent any airflow and it would still not get much more than a little warmer than ambient. Gotta be something going on here to explain the heat...

One thing to consider is how you measure substantial heat. Are they in a stack such that the overall stack is rading 6, 9, or more watts? What is the ambient temperature above the top of the stack? It may be a side-effect of dealing with air conditioning comfort complaints, but it can be hard to measure heat generation precisely.

Well I think I'll just avoid the Outlaws for now. If tech support want's to chime in here and clear this up fine, but if not I can go elsewhere...

Outlaw generally stays out of the forum and leaves it to the customers - they will post occasionally, but in general if you have questions for tech support the best ways to get answers to them is on the phone or via their support system .

I have two 2200's and with some obvious positioning they are not hot at all. my sig shows what I have. but from the bottom of the rack up it is:

1) 7500
2) DVD player
3) 2200 stacked
4) cable box
5) 990
