I'm in the market for a new receiver. I've narrowed it down to two choices. My question is this, Which do you guys think is better? Price is not an issue as both are roughly the same. I like the bass management on the 1070, but with all the issues that it seems to have, it has made me a little hesitant. The t763 is from a local dealer and having the support right down the road is a benefit, at least in my case. The t763 is a bit more powerful, which is a plus as I'm running NHT supertwo's and NHT VS-2 as my center. They are not very efficient speakers and would like a little more ooomph. Anyone else have any thoughts, pros, cons, etc.?

There are not a lot of features that differ between the two. The NAD does not appear to offer transcoding of s-video and composite video signals to component, a feature that I've liked in my Model 990. It also lacks the DVI switching, of course, but that may not matter for your system anyway. If you want to run a 7.1 setup, you may want to keep in mind that the NAD doesn't have seven amp channels - it has only six, and to run a pair of surround back speakers you need a separate amp for that last channel. From the feature standpoint, the 1070 seems to have a bit of an edge. The NAD does have the extra power (at the cost of one less channel) and I'd suspect the two to both offer comparable audio quality. If your local dealer is good and you have experience with him (so that you trust that he'll help you if you need help and that he'll be around a while - something that I've become sensitive to lately since the dealer I've bought Paradigm and Yamaha from shut down recently), I'd certainly give the NAD a good hard look.

Hi bruning1,
I always had a soft spot for NAD amps...
but their receivers left me cold...looked and behaved like everyone else...
I've been the proud owner of a 1070 since june this year...and wow! I fell in love...
I buy cd's weekly even some vinyl since the 1070 came in to my life.

the minor issues I had with it were mostly user induced...since I did the latest firmware...the ''no-audio'' issue has been less and less present...
I'm starting to suspect some kind of digital audio handshake between the 1070 and my HDTV tuner being the culprit...
something similar to hdmi+hdcp between components...
it's so minor I can live with it...and following a protocol to turn the gear on seems to have eliminated the problem...
as far as power and ooomph...
my inefficient Mirage 290s(86 db) + powered sub
played loud enough...
that neighbours knew I had changed my sound system laugh

Thanks, I really was set on the outlaw until the deal on the NAD came up. Then reading about all the issues with the 1070 put some major doubts in my head. ( the bad part about having a forum on your website, as I'm sure there have been issues with other manufacturers products)I'm replacing my 1050 and have been impressed by it's audio performance, so I'm sure the 1070 is more of the same. Thanks again, I probably will go ahead with the 1070.

I happen to own a NAD T763 as well as an Outlaw 1070. It is my opinion that the 1070 is superior. In fact, I will gladly sell you my NAD at a reduced price.

Thanks for the offer, but I will be sticking to the 1070. As much for my sanity as for my wife's. (make a decision!) Just needed a nudge in the right direction. Thanks again and have a great Christmas or holiday season, as the case may be.

You made the right choice with the 1070. I was wondering if somebody could help me out. When I use the OSD with my DVD, it works perfectly. When I try to use the OSD with my Sat/Tivo, it does not work. The DVD connections are component video and digital coax audio. The Sat/Tivo connections are component video and optical audio. The TV has component and svideo in and the 1070 has monitor out with component and svideo. Why can't I use the OSD for Sat/Tivo?

Sorry for the confusion, but I'm slowly figuring things out. With regard to the OSD, I saw that Gonk mentioned to check out 480i and it worked. However, What are the differences for on my Sat receiver? The choices are 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i?

the osd only passes through 480i...
(480 being lines of resolution and i for interlace)
technically with 480p (p for progressive), 720p and 1080i you get no osd but depending on your display/tv you get a sweeter picture...

Laventura is right - the 1070 will add OSD information to a 480i signal, but not a 480p or higher signal.

If your satellite receiver offers 720p and 1080i and your TV accepts them, then you have an HDTV and presumably have access to at least some HD channels via satellite. In that case, using anything other than 720p or 1080i is probably unwise - you'd be giving up HDTV to get OSD info from the 1070. Whether 720p or 1080i is better depends on your TV and its native resolution.
