I'm just about to order a 1070, I was wondering if the announced new software upgrade would already be applied to the unit?

If so, great. If not, does Outlaw have any timeframe where they would have the upgrade applied to new units sold/shipped? What about upgrades to other Outlaw products? Are they all be applied to new units shipped at the same time?

Thanks,

Joe

I would expect the new software to be posted if they were already including it in new units. Historically, upgrades are included on all units shipping out from the day that the upgrade is announced (that's the way the 950 revisions went, and I'd expect software updates to be handled the same way to help consumers determine if they had it already or not). Based on that, I would expect a 1070 ordered today to have the "old" software on it. (Obviously, I could be wrong.) As for a timeframe for rolling out the new 1070 software, I'll leave that to the Outlaws...

1070 owners might want to check out the firmware update page - the updater download now contains a data file with a November 16, 2005 date (which means it's a different file than the one released when the unit shipped out). I've e-mailed Scott to ask if my read on this is correct, and I'll post what I find out here (or Scott will beat me to it, which is very possible since I'll be out all afternoon at a meeting and probably won't get back to a web browser until after 8PM).

Yep, I've applied it. And works great. I tried to fool it. Made some surround modes sticky on some inputs then switched to DD sources and back and forth. Flawless so far. Great coding.

(Now if I could just figure out how to turn that darn volume punch through off and go back to controlling devices seperately.)

You know, I ran the new software update, and it didn't reset my settings to the defaults, like I thought it did last time. Does that mean it didn't update? It said erasing, programming, and verifying like it was supposed to. I haven't really tried testing to see any differences, but is there any way of knowing the software version?

You know, I could be wrong, but I feel like the volume might be changing slightly (without the display showing it) on its own all of a sudden. Anyone else see this, or am I going crazy?

I noticed as well that not all of my settings changed back to default like they did last time. So you've got me wondering the same thing. I did the upgrade an did a factory reset afterwards. (twice for good measure).

Gonna have to try an pay attention to the volume.. Maybe its trying to tell you something.
(turn it UP)

It may be that the upgrade was implemented a bit differently this time, such that it didn't have to wipe out your settings - that's something that would be preferable from a customer support standpoint if it could be done.

I just updated my 1070 and my settings (crossover setting/speaker delay/etc) were completely wiped out.

Just a note related to my update process: the Model 1070 sure is heavy. My wife and I both use Apple PowerBooks at home, so I needed to lug the 1070 to work to upgrade it on my office PC.

At least the weight seems to be in places where it matters. The side with the toirodal transformer is significantly heavier than the other side.
